Last night at 5:30 pm as I was leaving for the day, I left the Real Time Readership Map up and running until the following morning to illustrate how widely Scholarship@Western, Western Libraries’ open access institutional repository, disseminates research throughout the world. Each of the 1,836 pins on the map represents one download of a paper from the repository. You will notice that all inhabited continents are covered: North and South America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia, including the cities of Reykjavik, Cape Town, Tokyo, Nanjing, Moscow and Valdivia. The impact of the research produced here is truly international!
You may have already heard that Scholarship@Western rang in the New Year by reaching a significant milestone: 1,000,000 downloads from the Electronic Theses and Dissertation series.
The repository continues to grow both in size and in numbers of downloads. The Wayback Machine tells us that on 6 December 2014 the repository held 10,563 papers to date, saw 900,098 full-text downloads in total up to that time and 512,396 downloads in the past year.
Just over a year later we have 11,859 items, the past year has seen 935,899 downloads and we have achieved 1,930,507 Total Downloads. Our next milestone is 2,000,000 downloads for the entire repository which I suspect will happen in April! Stay tuned!
